Dirty Looks certifies as a B Corporation

The independent post-production house has announced its certification as a B Corp, joining a growing group of companies reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit.

Dirty Looks has earned B Corp Certification after a thorough review of its environmental and social impact. The company scored 91.6 out of a possible 200, significantly higher than the average of 50.9 for businesses undergoing the assessment. This evaluation considered five key areas: governance, workers, community, environment, and customers.

Dirty Looks’ commitment to supporting UK independent filmmakers making unique work, from emerging talent to established figures like Jonathan Glazer and artists Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, was a key factor in its certification. The company’s mission to repurpose waste heat from its computer processing also played a significant role. In a pilot project with sustainable tech company Deep Green, Dirty Looks’ processing power generated heat that was used to warm a pool in Exmouth, demonstrating the company’s innovative approach to sustainability.

We’re incredibly proud to achieve B Corp Certification. This isn’t just a culmination of our past efforts, but a springboard for future growth. The B Corp framework has provided invaluable guidance as we formalise our policies and prioritise continuous improvement, especially in our commitment to our workers.  We’re excited to be part of this movement of businesses driving positive change.

Tom Balkwill, Founder and Managing Director of Dirty Looks

Recent attention on the post-production industry makes Dirty Look’s B Corp certification a notable step and signals a shift towards greater accountability and transparency in the sector.

Being able to welcome Dirty Looks to the B Corp community is hugely exciting. Their commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and really help spread the idea that we can redefine success in business to be as much about people and planet as it is about profit.

Chris Turner, Executive Director of B Lab UK

There are currently over 2,000 B Corps in the UK and 8,000 worldwide. Dirty Looks joins a small but growing community of post-production B-Corps, alongside post-production peers like Fifty Fifty Post and Dupe VFX.
