Congratulations to the DNEG TV team who have been nominated in the ‘Best Special, Visual and Graphic Effects’ category for the British Academy Television Craft Awards 2018.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced today the nominations for its annual British Academy Television Craft Awards, honouring the very best behind-the-scenes talent working in television. This year DNEG’s TV team have been nominated for their work on Netflix ‘Black Mirror – Metalhead’ and NBC Universal ‘Emerald City’.
Written by showrunner Charlie Brooker and directed by David Slade, ‘Metalhead’ is the fifth episode of Netflix ‘Black Mirror’ Season 4. DNEG’s brief was to create a photo-realistic quadruped robot built from technology that could conceivably exist in the near future. The team created over 300 shots for the episode, including 200 shots involving bespoke character animation.
‘Black Mirror’ was also nominated in multiple categories including ‘Best Writer: Drama’ for Charlie Brooker.
‘Emerald City’ is a 10-episode fantasy drama directed by Tarsem Singh Dhandwar for NBC Universal TV. DNEG’s TV team created a wide range of creatures, from a 150ft high stone giant that crumbles to pieces to sea serpents and CG dancing stone man made of pebbles; a huge swarm and tunnel of magical locusts, beautiful photorealistic CG gauntlets that track onto Dorothy’s hands and complex transformations.
The winners will be announced at the British Academy Television Craft Awards Ceremony on Sunday 22nd April, and you can find more information about all the nominations here.
