The studio’s work has been recognised in the 50th Annual Annie Awards and the 21st Annual VES Awards across several categories in visual effects and animation.
The VES Awards, organised by the Visual Effects Society, recognises outstanding visual effects artistry and innovation worldwide in film, animation, television, commercials and video games, and celebrates the VFX supervisors, VFX producers and artists who bring the works to life. From Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and the Apple TV+ series Prehistoric Planet, MPC received a total of nine nominations across eight categories at the VES Awards this year.
In the ‘Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature’ category, Top Gun: Maverick and Thirteen Lives were nominated. Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio received nominations in the ‘Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Feature’ and ‘Outstanding Created Environment in an Animated Feature’ categories. Prehistoric Planet also received two nominations in the ‘Outstanding Virtual Cinematography in a CG Project’ and ‘Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Episode’ categories. Also nominated in the latter category is House of the Dragon.
Vikings: Valhalla was nominated in the ‘Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal Episode’ category and to wrap it up, Disney’s Pinocchio was nominated in the ‘Outstanding Animated Character in a Photoreal Feature’ category.
The winners will be announced the 21st Annual VES Awards ceremony, which will take place on 15 February 2023 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. See the full list of nominees here.
MPC’s VFX work continues to be recognised at the Annie Awards, with three nominations across three categories. These include Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio in the ‘Best FX – Feature’ category, Prehistoric Planet in the ‘Best FX – TV/Media’ category and Finch in the ‘Best Character Animation – Live Action’ category.
